THREE AIDAN HIGGINS TITLES FOR MARCH
Three new books from Aidan Higgins, one the great Irish Modernist writers, hit the shops on March 2nd. Thank God, a wonderful reissue of the marvellous ‘Balcony of Europe,’ a must-read for any young writer who thinks he’s the first to write a ‘European’ novel; ‘Darkling Plain: Texts for the Air,’ Higgins’ broadcast drama; and ‘Aidan Higgins: The Fragility of Form,’ a selection of essays on the writer by Dermot Healy, John Banville, Annie Proulx, Derek Mahon, and others. All from Dalkey Archive Press. Now in his ‘Eighties, Higgins stands head and shoulders above many of his contemporaries; he reached out beyond Ireland in most of his writing and reminded us that another world lay waiting to be written about, in which Irish lives also had an existence.
